A home with unmissable views

San Carlos Remodel

Dale sees the future. (Dale is a family man.)

With two kids he adores, he wanted to maximize interior space for his family while keeping his eye on the prize — an absolutely incredible view.

In the Bay Area, it’s especially hard to find a home you love everything about, in the exact right neighborhood. Dale’s home is right where he wants it, and it’s just the right size, but it’s dated in that everything-is-original 1950s way. And with a teenage take-over of the “good” bedrooms, he needed a space of his own.

Unfinished and oozing with possibilities, the walkout lower level presented a huge opportunity for expansion. And so, of course, we took it. We created a dream master bedroom downstairs with a massive closet, a five-piece bathroom, plus a media room and bar area.

The top floor entry offers sweeping views of the Bay Area, but the entrance was a long narrow hall with low-ish ceilings. By moving one of the bedrooms downstairs and vaulting the ceiling, we brought in a big dramatic staircase, and really opened the home up to that view.

The result? A family home with a smidge of grandeur and an unmissable view. (Now with Dad Cave.)
