In a custom home this big, it’s the little things that matter.
Rita and Larry love to travel.
They’re passionate about art and textiles and wanted to thoughtfully display cherished pieces brought back from their past and future journeys.
This is a design built on details. Plans for aging in place, a multi-purpose guest house, a pool house, and of course, art galleries, all came into play. We knew we needed to utilize every single space in the house while keeping the scale open and airy.
It was pretty clear from the start that Larry may have missed his calling as an architect, and we had a blast brainstorming with him on all of the many (many) details he wanted to include. His artistic instincts led to the creation of wonderful, personal little moments all around the house. Super clear communication and coordination with consultants, subcontractors, and contractors (our specialty!) ensured a complicated project stayed on track.
Inspiration can strike at every step of architectural design.
This epic project had gotten its start before Catch came on board, but we were able to work with an already very cool plan by making a few minor changes that had a major impact.
We turned a second stairway leading to a birdnest of a man cave into a large spiral staircase, thus creating two more mini galleries with additional clerestories and a nice skylight.
A custom niche in the master bedroom finally offered the perfect solution for Larry’s rounded armoire (insert long-story here about Larry’s first summer job and the commitment to an antique piece of French furniture he’s had his entire life). We really love solutions that make sense and delight our clients.
The result? Larry and Rita are surrounded by the beautiful things they love and are super happy with their peaceful new home.
