A unison of architecture and landscape, hugging a scenic Oregon hillside.

Paul and Bruce love the outdoors.

Knowing what a popular go-to destination Hood River, Oregon is for trekking enthusiasts and adrenaline junkies alike, we were thrilled when they asked us to design their weekend home there.

Highlighting the natural setting was important to lean into the surrounding active lifestyle. The building is nestled into a hillside, overlooking an active orchard. All the main rooms open up onto this view corridor. The main bedroom upstairs received a modern-day Juliette railing to capture the essence of immersing the outdoors inside with fresh light and plenty of air. To lean into this concept further, we worked out details of the live green roof over the garage, which has a seamless indoor-outdoor transition from the office. The house not only melds with the existing landscape but blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living.

The result? A welcoming vacation home for everyone...with a view to dream of an active outdoor lifestyle.

Our design firm worked with Nina for approximately a year on a luxury vacation home in Hood River, Oregon. She was a large asset to the team and instrumental in the beautiful finished result. She was thoughtful in her solutions, accurate, and a team player with our shared client, the builder, and our interior design team. She supported our interior design role and complimented us well. The architecture and finish details of the residential home were sometimes extremely detailed and technical, many times outside of the common practice for the builder and his team. Nina provided technical drawings for the build team - working with the manufacturer’s specifications. Some of these products and build practices required her to do a fair amount of research for accurate drawings. I also found Nina able to handle stressful, time-sensitive changes in stride with a can-do attitude. When something was urgent she made herself immediately available. I would be delighted to work with her again and recommend her highly.
